AJ Bunn

AJ is a Wealth Advisor at BentOak Capital, based in the firm’s Lubbock office. He works closely with clients to clarify their financial goals and chart a course to pursue them. AJ takes pride in simplifying the often overwhelming world of personal finance and strives to break the mold of the stereotypical advisor through clear communication, empathy, and a focus on what truly matters to each client.

As a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® practitioner, AJ holds this designation in the highest regard. He believes a meaningful financial plan goes far beyond a simple investment portfolio or financial products—it’s about building a long-term relationship grounded in trust, honesty, and diligence that addresses every aspect of a person’s financial life.

A graduate of Texas Tech University, AJ earned dual degrees in Personal Financial Planning and Economics. While at Texas Tech, he was an active participant in the nationally recognized financial planning program and was part of the team that won the FPA Financial Planning Challenge National Championship. He continues to support the program as a board member of the Texas Tech School of Financial Planning Alumni Advisory Board, where he also serves on the fundraising committee. He is also the Treasurer of the Texas Tech Alumni Association – Lubbock Chapter.

AJ is deeply involved in the Lubbock community. He is a member of the 2025 Leadership Lubbock Class through the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce. Through the Chamber, AJ has served on the board of directors during his time as Chair of the Young Professionals. AJ has a heart for supporting one of the region’s most vulnerable populations and serves as a board member for the Children’s Advocacy Center of the South Plains. He takes great pride in living and working in Lubbock and enjoys building relationships with fellow business leaders to help the community thrive.

Outside the office, AJ enjoys Texas Tech sporting events, time on the golf course, in a deer blind, or fishing at the lake. An avid outdoorsman, he grew up trout fishing in the Sierra Nevada mountains with his grandparents—memories he still holds close. One day, he hopes to go on a remote elk hunt in Colorado or Northern New Mexico, and make a pilgrimage to the home of golf in St. Andrews.

AJ credits everything he does to the support of his wife, Mairin. Together, they share their home with two dogs—Scarlet, a black German Shepherd, and Stella, a Staffordshire Terrier.
