Michael Cochran


Michael is Chief Investment Officer at BentOak Capital where he oversees the firm’s overall financial planning and investment management process. He also works with clients to develop a plan to help them pursue their goals and help them focus on what matters most.

Michael believes that working with a financial advisor is a personal relationship, built on trust and that the clients’ interests must always come first. Throughout his career, he has found that a critical component to the relationship is the comprehensive planning process, with the objective of providing clients with the knowledge to pursue their long-term objectives.

Michael has been a part of the investment and financial planning industry since 2007, and a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ practitioner since 2011. In those 15 years, he has earned experience in investment management, retirement planning, banking, charitable planning, estate planning, insurance, and employee retirement plans.

Michael graduated from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Science in Personal Financial Planning. He also obtained his MBA from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth and completed a Certificate in International Affairs from the Bush School of Government and Public Service. In addition to the CFP® designation, Michael also holds the Certified Investment Management Analyst® from the Yale School of Management, the Series 7 securities registration through LPL Financial and Series 63 through Garrett Wealth Advisory Group.

He is actively involved in his children’s activities and is a past member of the Tarrant County Leadership Board for the Northern Texas/Oklahoma Chapter of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation. When not at the office, you will most often find Michael spending time with family, working at the ranch, hunting, and following Texas Tech athletics. Michael, his wife, four children, and two dogs live in Fort Worth.

Michael starts the day with a hearty breakfast, and always enjoys good Mexican food or BBQ from local restaurants.


Michael can be found cheering on his children for their sports, watching college athletics with his boys, and attending a Texas Tech game whenever possible.
